first up, we got Wale. Wale just put out his debut album Attention Deficit under RocNation (jay-z's label) and it is amazing. after putting out numerous mixtapes which are a breath of fresh air in a struggling hip-hop's lungs, Wale continued on with his "go-go" style music that DC and the rest of the DMV area are used to. from his album, i bring you the official video for "Chillin' feat. Lady GaGa " which i showed you in this blog months ago, but its one of his bigger singles off the album so i'll bring it up again.
Most of this video, aside from the parts shot in DC, were filmed in Cambridge and Boston, Mass. (reppin the 617!!) Wale goes into the store Bodega (behind the snapple vending machine) which is one of the premier boutiques for streetwear in Boston. Props to Wale for showing Boston some love in this vid.
This is "90210" from Attention Deficit, and it is one of my favorite tracks off the album.
No video yet, but its the song. its about a girl (Paris Hilton, according to Wale from Twitter) who is addicted to coke and the Hollywood/Beverly Hills lifestyle. Wale's flow mixed with the very contagious beat makes this a song that i find myself listening to again and again, especially with my favorite line "Big breast girls never ever pay rent, they make Rich Boys throw D's on that bitch", which is a play on Rich Boy's "Throw Some D's".
World Tour feat. Jazmine Sullivan is another one of my favorite songs from the cd. Seeing this song live by Wale when i saw him, J.Cole, N.E.R.D, and Jay-z in Providence made me really appreciate Wale's music. This man puts his heart and soul into his music, time for more people to acknowledge his effort.
Moving on from Wale, we got another DMV familiar group, Virginia's own The Clipse. With their upcoming album "Til the Casket Drops" coming soon, their single "Popular Demand (Popeyes)" had its video released today. a Neptunes (Pharrell Willams of N.E.R.D) produced beat, Malice and Pusha T of the Clipse along with the Diplomats own Cam'ron chill in Brooklyn, NY eating some chicken and fries, just like the average person. really cool video, even better song.
Here we got Clipse's other single "Doorman". This video is CRAZY. its like a trip down memory lane of the Clipse's whole cocain court case and arrests and all other nonsense that went along with it. besides from being a great song, the video just adds to its glory. peep this

this next song, is a diss song. actually, its a massacre song. FUCK JAY-Z (nas's ether voice). Beanie Sigel, yes, Sigel Desert Eagle from tha tha tha Roc, Jay-z's former right hand man. Jay-z's brother in crime alongside Memphis Bleek...back when Rocafella records were good. Beans went in on Hova in a tell-all song called "Average Cat" (or so some people call it. other's call it "What you talkin' bout"). Sigel, who in my opinion is a better RAPPER than Jay-z is now, primarily because JAy is too "pop" and radio friendly for me, was in line to blow up as big as Jay, but Hova never published Sig as much as he'd had liked. This friendship went from the best of friends to Jay drifting away when Sigel was in jail locked up. Jay never even went to visit him in prison, and even worse than that, Jay refused to release Sigel from Rocafella records so Sig could make more money in another label. Jay-z actually held Sig back from making more, and maybe even from being more well known in the forum front of rap. Regardless, take a listen to this and see if your opinions on Jay change at all. (i like Jay-z, but i like his older stuff such as 1-900-hustler, big pimpin, people's court, cashmere thoughts, etc. his new BP3 is aight at best, im really not into the whole pop-radio jay-z.)
and the last song, sadly, is a Drake freestyle. as you may or may not know, i despise Drake. i feel like he got the special treatment in music because he is friends with lil wayne. no other new comer, such as Wale, KiD CuDi, Asher Roth, etc., have not had a song with Kanye West, Eminem, and Lil Wayne. That is the equivalent as me getting a job at Nike and before you can blink, ill be sitting in my corner office with Tinker Hatfield and Phil Knight talking about my own model of sneaker, before i even lift a pencil or do ANYTHING besides wear a pair of kicks. But besides my obvious hate for Drake, he DID do something i like. This is a freestyle called "Say What's Real" and it is over Kanye West's beat to his song "Say You Will". He did it justice, so i can't even hate for that (like a typical blogger hating on anything that's not up to par). my favorite line from this is "i quit school, and its not because im lazy. im just not the social type, and campus life is crazy." pretty much describing me perfectly at the moment. so, on that note, check out the song.
well, thats all the music im gonna show you today. its 3am in the mornin' (eminem 3a.m. voice) and im gonna go to bed. enjoy the music y'all.
